Open Gate is a collaborative project with the San Francisco Unified School District Special Education, Community Mental Health, Community Alliance for Special Education (CASE) and Community Advisory Committee for Special Education.
OPEN GATE SERVICES
Information
and Resource Services:
The Phone Line and Drop-In staff are parents of children with disabilities who assist families and professionals in accessing information and services. Appointments are not necessary. Open Gate houses both a resource library with disability-related materials (books, videos, dvds, magazines, and toys).

Support
Groups:
Parent/caregiver are available throughout the city sponsored by
Support for Families and other organizations.
Parent
Mentor Program:
The program matches parents/caregivers with other parents who have a child with a similar disability or issue.

Mental
Health Support:
Mental health referrals, short-term counseling, and consultations
are available.
Family
Links to Mental Health Workshops:
Parent/Professional Workshops and small-group clinics offer information
on a variety of topics. Interpretation services and childcare are
available if reserved in advance. See Upcoming
Events for a current schedule.
Advocacy
and Representation:
Families and professionals can obtain legal advice about accessing
special education services for a child in San Francisco. Call Open
Gate or email to
make an appointment for a consultation with an advocate. Advocates
may represent families at IEP meetings, fair hearings and due process
hearings on an as-needed basis.
