Did you know there’s a state-run program that provides free hearing aids to children without health insurance? A worthy goal, to be sure, especially with about 2,300 children estimated to be eligible in any given year! But in its first year of operation, the Hearing Aid Coverage for Children Program has served only 39 children. A CalMatters investigation found numerous barriers to access, in multiple areas.
