Juneteenth commemorates June 19, 1865, the day that the last enslaved Black Americans in Texas were freed (two years after the Emancipation Proclamation). In 2021, Juneteenth was officially recognized as a federal holiday.

This holiday not only celebrates the freedom of enslaved people but is also observed for honoring African American culture. To join in on the Juneteenth celebrations this weekend, visit https://juneteenth-sf.org
