Special Family Events and Activities provide opportunities for families of children with special needs to experience new activities in a stress-free, accepting space. The supported environment encourages families to bring their children out in public and try something new. Check out our special events below for more information and dates.
Walt Disney Family Museum
Saturday, June 2nd, 9:00am - 12:00pm
Join us on for our second annual Family Access Day, where we invite children with disabilities or
other health-care needs—plus their friends and family—to enjoy the museum for free. Our doors
open one hour early for qualifying families to enjoy quiet time before the museum opens to the
general public. Guests can work on an art project, make a stop-motion animated film, watch a
classic Disney movie in our theater, and enjoy the museum galleries and special exhibitions.
Family Access Day is organized by The Walt Disney Family Museum in partnership
with Support for Families.
Family Access Day at the San Francisco Zoo
Sunday, June 10th, 9:00am - 11:30am
Families of children with disabilities are invited to join us at the San Francisco Zoo to explore exhibits, meet new mammal, reptile, bird, amphibian, and invertebrate friends, play on sculptures of plants and animals, and enjoy snacks and activities. Come early to see it all!

Support for Families Event Descriptions
Access to Adventure
At Access to Adventure we partner with incredible organizations to connect children and youth with special needs and their families to experience and explore activities that broaden their vision of what opportunities exist in our community. Access to Adventure is hosted in Golden Gate Park every summer!
Join us as we roll out the red carpet for our honored guests. We bring box office hits, classic kids movies, and more as we laugh, cry, hoot and holler. We have freshly popped popcorn, pizza, and snacks to keep everyone fueled up for the cinematic adventures.
Family Access Days
SFCD is happy to partner with aquariums, museums, and other cultural institutions across San Francisco to bring accessible and equal access events to our children and families. We have partnered with Aquarium of the Bay, Contemporary Jewish Museum, the De Young Fine Arts Museum, and are looking to visit new and engaging spaces. Join us!
The Aquarium of the Bay and Support for Families come together in partnership to host haunting Halloween parties for families of children with special needs. We provide all sorts of frightful fun: whether we are learning about eerie eels; getting frightening face paint; or making special treats for our tricky otters. Come for the fright! Stay for the fun.

Holiday Ice Skating Party
Slick and smooth out on the ice. We don our skates and scarves and hit the ice! Whether it’s your first time on ice or you’re practicing for the next Olympics, we have a team of volunteers on ice with us to ensure that everyone has a safe and slippery day. And… is that a skating Santa?!
